Diablo III

<short_desc>The long awaited sequel is looking great</short_desc>
<long_desc>
Diablo III is an action role playing game set in the dark fantasy world of Sanctuary. Humanity is threatened by the armies from Hell once again, and it is up to you to and up to three other heroes to save the world!

With Diablo III, we feel that Blizzard has made something that will please fans and newcomers alike. Diablo fans will be right at home from the start, with familiar controls and gameplay, while it is an extremely easy game to get into too.

Atmospheric

Diablo III's graphical style is what you would expect from Blizzard, with well defined cartoon-like graphics that are full of detail. It's very atmospheric, and the environment looks great, with some nice touches like crows flying up out of trees as you pass. Diablo III does a great job of evoking a dark fantasy land without being so dark you can't see properly. Menus are all well designed and each of the five player classes look really good.

Gameplay

Once you've created your Diablo III Hero, from the usual character classes, you are dropped right into New Tristram, a town that has just suffered a meteor strike that has resulted in the dead rising and attacking. This sets you up on a mission to find Deckhard Cain, who is trapped in the Cathedral. The action role playing gameplay is really compelling, and developing your heroes powers and ablities as you get experience is satisfying.

One common criticism of Diablo's hack and slash gameplay is that it is a mouse click-a-thon. That has not changed, and you'll either love it or loath it.

Multiplayer

You can make your Diablo III game public, which means other players online will be able to drop into your game and join in with your quest. It's easy to do, and playing in teams feels natural when you're facing hordes of hell beasts! We have yet to play the player versus player mode.

Conclusion

These are our first impressions of Diablo III - we'll update soon with more detailed impressions and a final Softonic rating.
</long_desc>

<short_desc>Add fun effects to your pictures and videos</short_desc>
<long_desc>
Video Booth is a faithful clone of Apple's <a href="http://photo-booth-for-windows-7.en.softonic.com/"target="_blank">Photo Booth application, which allows you to add fun and silly effects to your photos and videos.

If you've ever used Photo Booth on a <a href="http://en.softonic.com/mac"target="_blank">Mac, the interface of Video Booth will be very similar. Photos and videos output in the strip on the bottom of the app and clicking effects will bring up a 3 x 3 grid of different effects. There are a surprising number of effects to choose from, even in the trial application.

The effects that included are fun! There are color filters, fun hour mirror, and faux green-screen effects. They work well and produce some silly photos and videos for you to share with your friends and family, though I can see the novelty of Video Booth wearing off quickly.

Speaking of sharing, you can upload your Video Booth videos directly to <a href="http://youtube.en.softonic.com/web-apps"target="_blank">YouTube. Unfortunately saving your photos and videos is not possible in the trial version, which is a bummer.

Overall, Video Booth is a good application to take fun photos or videos, but they really want you to buy the full version to experience all the features.
</long_desc>

Ridge Racer Unbounded

<text>An explosive entry into the Ridge Racer series</text>

<short_desc>An explosive entry into the Ridge Racer series</short_desc>
<long_desc>
Ridge Racer Unbounded is an arcade racing game that combines the well-known drifting action of Ridge Racer with the destruction of games like Split Second and Burnout.

The first time you play Ridge Racer Unbounded it feels strange. Mixing the feel of western racers with the Ridge Racer is unusual. Car handling feels normal until you hit the drift button and then you're in Ridge Racer territory, with extremes drifts that defy logic. Add to this the destruction of the environment and other drivers, and you've got a very different Ridge Racer.

Each track is filled with destructible scenery - you build up your power by drifting, then can activate it to accelerate through tankers and buildings in explosive style. The power button can be used to take down other racers too, much like in Burnout. All of the destruction can make for very busy tracks, and it will take a while to optimize your routes. This can make early play-throughs tough, but once a track ‘clicks’, Ridge Racer Unbounded becomes an adrenalin-filled ballet of high speed destruction.

Ridge Racer Unbounded looks great, with neon-filled environments and fantastically shiny vehicles, with the trademark light trails appearing when activating power mode. Occasionally crashing through buildings can look untidy, but overall this is a very impressive looking racing title. Ridge Racer Unbounded can get really busy, and to help you concentrate, the display is really intelligent. There’s nothing complex to take your eyes away from the action, and important information is beautifully displayed on the track as you race. It’s both stylish and functional, which is the perfect combination.

There’s no doubt that arcade racers have taken a hit in recent years, with racing in general polarizing between cute karting and precision realism. Ridge Racer Unbounded hopes to succeed where Split Second failed, but its learning curve may put some players off.
</long_desc>
